[Webinar] Cybersecurity Essentials for CPAs

This originally aired Jan 27, 1:30 p.m. EST on Zoom

Cyber attacks are growing in number, and it's not always the biggest organizations that are targeted. In fact, the Verizon 2021 SMB Data Breaches Deep Dive reports that 307 breaches last year attacked large organizations, with a close 263 attacking smaller ones. Add to that the fact that 93% of bad actors were motivated by financial incentives, and it's clear that CPA firms cannot skip out on a cybersecurity strategy.

To support you in your firm’s security plan, Opkalla Managing Partner Jim Campbell speaks with Elliott Davis CIO, Jeff French, about cybersecurity best practices for CPAs.

We will cover:

  • The main security concerns CPAs and other leaders in the industry deal with

  • How cybersecurity has evolved over the past several years, and where it's going

  • How to prioritize tactics within a security strategy when resources are limited and cybersecurity is not your main job function

  • Quick actions you can take right now for immediate enhanced security

By the end of the discussion, you will be more aware of security threats and how to proactively defend your organization from them.

Jeff French
CIO at Elliott Davis

Jeff French’s first job in high school was working for a local dial-up ISP in the mid-90’s. After earning a BS in Computer Science from Clemson University in 2003, he traded sleepless nights in a basement computer lab for sleepless nights in a data center as a network engineer.

Jeff joined Elliott Davis in 2013 as a member of the infrastructure team supporting network, server and security infrastructure. In 2020 he was given the opportunity to step into the role of Chief Information Officer for Elliott Davis. In this role he is focused on leading his incredible team to implement and support secure, stable, and intuitive systems with the goal of providing the best possible employee and client experience. Jeff enjoys seeing these efforts contribute to firm growth, better collaboration and transformation.

In his spare time he loves spending time with his family and friends, cooking, hiking and, much to his wife’s dismay, obsessively collecting vinyl records and audio gear.
